1. 23Things for VAD

For this workshop, there are 23 Things for you to do. Each Thing will show you another web tool. There are many places for you to explore, experiment with, and think about creative ways to use this in your work or to collaborate with other educators.

This program was originally developed and launched for the staff at the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County in August 2006 with a total of 352 PLCMC participants creating blogs and many additional guests joining in. You can view their program here. Since the program's launch, the exercises there have helped other library systems develop programs of their own. At EIT we are now adjusting it for other sections than the library and VAD is the first to get stuck in.

This blog will be our homebase as new 'Things' will be posted here. Feel free to look around this web site - it is a place for self-directed and shared learning. If you get stuck, ask the person next to you first. Although it is about self-discovery, 23 Things is also a social programme that works best if you share & exchange information and tips with your colleagues or peers.

Over the next 9 weeks, we will look at all of the following and more:
  • Blogs
  • Flickr and image sharing
  • Mashups
  • Social bookmarking
  • RSS Feeds
  • Tagging & different ways of finding information on the internet
  • Social networking
  • Digital artists
  • Art communities online
  • Online video sharing
  • Online image creation & editing
  • Digital tours of museums & galleries
  • Self-publishing online
  • Wikis
  • Podcasts
  • ...and really anything that takes your fancy and you want to share & explore.
Having read this post, and followed some of the links, you have already completed your first Thing!
